Unbelievable! wind, significant wind, for the for 4-6 weekends in the middle of summer. What a joy! And it's blowing now!
Great day up at Malmo yesterday. Winds were too strong unfortunately for most of our students. Eric P is always on the water when I arrive. Chris B., Scott C., Scott R., Hunter, Aaron, Denny, and Co. were ripping it up on 9's and smaller. Denis hung for awhile at Malmo, going huge on his X10 proto. It was good to see Aaron and Emily over from the Hinkley area.
Great stoke on the shore even though most were itching to get out. Thanks to all who brought something to contribute to Lunch BBQ. As always, I really appreciate having that jetski handy Scott....thanks.
I got out on a few short sessions. So great to have such huge swell to boost off of. Just crank up a face to windward and spring, the float was so smooth. I love the Diesel's for swell riding as well. They just move with you instead of surging.
It was great looking out on the water during the day. Huge rollers would shave the lower half of riders off as they dropped into the trough. Windsurfers were loving life on the clean faces.
One small note about Malmo. Quite often you'll see a pontoon boat going up and down the shore out about at the edge of the sand bar. He's trolling for Muskies and has lines out to each side that extend behind him 50-75 ft on top of the water. BEWARE. Give him plenty of room or you could be the catch of the day.
Good to see everyone.
The surprises keep coming...

The other great thing I was thinking about was how so many riders from all over make the pilgrimage to Mille Lacs. Amos from Rochester, Scott from Eau Claire, Local dude Eric, Jerry from near St. Cloud, quite the clan from the twin cities, Aaron and Emily(Mnkiting) from Hinkley, etc etc.
It's becoming a weekend ritual.
ride on.

It was great to see everyone this weekend. I got to meet many new riders which is always a treat! Rarely is there a day where the majority of riders claim to need smaller kites.
The wind was too much for me but I got my new LFT in the mail today and Aaron and I are heading back to Mille Lacs again tomorrow. If anyone is feeling like they might be sick tomorrow come out and join us. I think Eric P will also be there.
Thanks for a great day socializing everyone. Hopefully, next time I will do more than just swim in the water!

I couldn't believe I was the only kiter out on WBL yesterday. It was awesome - even for SW. I launched on the SE corner and did a downwinder. There was actually swell around Mahtomedi!
I definitely need a Mille Lacs fix soon, though. Sounds like the hot spot this year - so plenty of people to kite with.

Sunday was a blast! It was good finally meeting some of the faces behind the forum posts and the atmosphere was warm and friendly which was a relief. It didn't take long at all, after watching the action on the lake and talking to people, to realize that the 8hour drive was definately worth it
Thanks for getting me out on the water Tighe...you should've seen the look on Kathy's face when i described my first body drag behind a respectable kite with good wind (granted it was more of a body trawl-skip-fly-splat but i was smiling the whole time). She gave me a good slug for having that much fun without her and her missing the opportunity of seeing me in newb mode hehe.
Needless to say I see more trips to the wind hotspots in the near future for Kat and I.
Good Times!

Oh and last thought...I don't care how much fun you're having on the water no more peep shows Tighe
