Is anyone planning on going to Mahtomedi?

I am going to the twins game, but hope the wind is still up in the afternoon. Bellaire or Mahtomedi for me.

Planning on D'Bear on Sun.

Went out on my 9.5 today and got some rides off Ramsey. It was a real zoo on shore, but the boat traffic was not bad off shore. Suppose how much of a westward component will tell if Mahto is a go... otherwise, Ramsey is an option again. Not sure if Kev was planing to sail in off-shore winds from Bellaire, or wait 'til it switches west late in the day. :o J.N.

Jim:

You're killing me! Rides on a 9.5 and I wasn't even there to enjoy it with you.

How is parking at Maht? Was terrible at Ramsey last Sunday. I had to park my trailer over in the boating section and haul the gear. Bellaire looks offshore all day, which is less fun for my young'uns.

See you out somewhere, probably later this afternoon. I have this fantasy that the boating crowds will have died down by then.

Man, Sunday is making me think Tighe's right about WBL. That was *soooo* gusty. I had a couple of fantastic rides, some boring schlogs -- and my nastiest toss in a couple of years. Lost a lens out of my sports googles!! Sigh.

I seem to remember some people (Coach?) predict that about Ramsey on a S -- especially shading W as it was on Sunday. Did anyone sail Maht? How was parking? How was sailing?

Thanks,
John

SW is probably the worst direction for the Bear. If you can head somewhere else (Wack, Cannon, Milly) I'd recommend it. I headed down to Cannon yesterday - SSW is perfect for that lake. Water quality was not bad. Small crowd and good winds. I rode my 4.5 seriously powered most of the afternoon.

Wow, I didn't know I had made my opinion so public. I've just had bad luck with White Bear Lake. I know many who really like it and have found the wind directions and launch choices that work well.

Just to reiterate - SW on the Bear is not a good direction for the lake. E, SSE, E, W, WNW and NW...heck even North are great. I love it...especially when the lake is only five blocks from my house. The other reason I opted to drive yesterday was due to the fact that in the summer the crowds at some of the launches (Ramsey for instance) are terrible.

Dave is right.

I don't think WBL is peculiarly gusty though. I was at Waconia yesterday, and it was among the gustiest sessions I can remember. It steadied out later in the afternoon when the wind really picked up.
