South Padre Island Kitesurfing Camp

Post by Tighe »

We've gotten a lot of inquiries about Kitesurfing instruction, specifically getting a jump on the water season, while the water warms up. We're considering another S. Padre Island Kitesurfing Camp and at this point are finding out how much interest there would be.

We'd arrange air, ground transport, accomodations, instruction, and gear for 4-5 days.

We'd put together packages based on the level of instruction you'ld want.

Shoot us a note if interested.

Hey Scott, Todd here, I'll be there from the 7th-to the 15th of April with a friend that's fairly new to water kiting. The kite rodeo is the first 3 days with demos and clinics.Should be a pretty good time. Call me on my cell if you have any questions. 218-821-6952

I'm thinking about going down 4/22 (Friday) to 4/27 (Wed). Currently, the flight is $273 to Harlingen. Is anybody else going to be down there during this time?

Unfortunately, we've run into some conflicts with our ability to take a group down to S. Padre.

We have, however, been able to work with the instructors in S. Padre to help put together a similar package for you. Same trip, more flexibility in terms of travel dates, and same PASA certified instruction. Jeff Hoxtell of AirPadre Kiteboarding is our representative down on South Padre. He does an amazing job.

Check out the unsolicited reviews at the bottom of this page:

Contact Jeff and let him know you have talked to me and he'll set you up with pricing in line with the original Kitesurfing Camp. He'll also be able to custom design a trip for you. He can handle your entire trip, or just hook you up with lessons. You can also set up a trip for one on one instruction.

I'm sorry the camp won't work this spring. Hopefully you'll be able to get down and enjoy all the island has to offer.

I will be down there next week 4/5 - 4/11, if you make it down, let's hook up and ride.

Let's recap our planned presence in Padre:

Tighe will be there this week, 4/5 - 4/11
Kiteboy is there 7th-to the 15th
Johnz, Stroh and Manalo are looking at 4/22 (Friday) to 4/27

Anybody looking at a weekend in May?

I'd love to find a number of people (I'm beginner!) to plan a weekend in May.

Any takers? Any one planning other dates - wanting some company?

May Kiting Trip

Post by kitingfox »

I would love to go down the first week of May! I was able to score a week off when switching jobs, so I'm free April 30th until May 7/8 for kiting. :D

What were you thinking as far as logistics? I priced out flights and everything seems really spendy...it would be great to get 2/3/4/8/15 people together and drive down.

I'll supply the XM radio and the access sticker to the north flats...if you are interested in working this out, give me a call/email 612-859-7062 or foxx0171 at yahoo.com.

I'd be flying into Padre, but I'm still interested in that week(end) or another!

I'm looking at a few dates...11-15 $263.90 22-27 $273.90 25-29 $273.90 these are all April dates. Sun Country doesn't fly there after the 29th of April. Must just be a winter route.

Another thing to consider...Does Jeff at Air Padre have space available for lessons. He was booked (at least for private) into June.

My last option (for Padre anyway) is to fly down in a private plane. Would potentially have room for 1 or 2 other guys with limited gear. Share fuel costs. Problem is always the weather, so may have to leave a day before planned or get stuck there for an extra day or two.

I need to make a decision fairly quickly. Would like to hook up with other area riders.

I've been on snow for 2 winters...water only once, looking to really get it dialed in.

I've got to be a weekender - maybe a long weekend, Friday - Sunday/Monday, but don't think I do a full week in April...

Flynhi...

Flynhi-

Just wondering if you would consider the first week of may for a kiting trip? I would be willing to split the fuel costs with you, so long as it was cheaper than a flight. What are gas prices per gallon for planes these days? Do you even use MPG?

Also, if John is busy you could potentially get lessons from Terran. I was there a few years ago and took lessons with him...he did a great job. I believe that his number is in the destinations section under South Padre.

I'm out of town this weekend, but if you are interested in setting something up just let me know and we'll work it out.

Ride on,

Michael,

Fuel costs here in Eau Claire for Avgas is about $3.09/gal, prices along the way could vary from $2.50- $4.oo. We use gal. per hour to calc. fuel use. One of the planes burns approx. 13 gal/hr, the other about 19. The trip down should take between 6 and 13 hours depending on which plane and of course we would be at the mercy of the winds. It would by no means be cheaper than commercial with only 2 guys splitting the costs.

At this point I am thinking about booking the 4-22 - 4-27, on Sun Country.

Jeff at Air Padre said someone else from this area is booked with him as well,...care to share some lodging expenses, and split up some lesson time costs?!?!? Please let me know
