Crossing Update

Post by Tighe »

There have been quite a few questions about the Crossing, which I've been forwarding to Mike Fox. I can assure you, he's got everything covered.

The main site will be in Garrison Bay. There will be a large tent, with banners so it shouldnt' be hard to locate. I'm sure Jason will be close by with his trailer as well.

Mike will make the call on when to do the actual crossing this weekend based upon conditions. The event is the entire weekend though, and he encourages people to come up and make a weekend out of it. The conditions sound great for riding, I think Jason will be giving demos and there will be instruction available. Get a bunch of kiters together and who knows what we might make up for activities. I enjoy just hanging with everyone.

I'll try to post here Sunday morning with an update, no promises though.

Hope to see many of you up there.

Does anyone have an info on the current conditions up there? That's one big puddle I've never ventured to. How's the snow? Is it currently hardpack, ice blotchy, or powdery...or all three??:?:

I'm trying to figure out if I should bring both my boards or whatnot. Decisions decisions!! :?

Thanks, and see ya'll up there!!

I was there on Sunday, with 4 inches of new snow on top of some crust and clear ice. It looked great, I just needed more wind.

Maybe someone has a more current report.

bmr and the rest of the crew...

Me and the boys were out on Mille Lacs yesterday (Tuesday). We all three agreed that it is the absolute best snow that we have kited in to date. Mille lacs has about 3-4 inches of freshies sitting over a pretty consistent hard snow base. Lets just say it was 95% amazing, with an occasional old drifted hard snow pack that would make that 5% part, a little less than amazing.

Bottom Line if it blows this weekend, we are all in for a treat!! Believe that!!

See ya'll there!!

Wow if the weatherman Brian says there will be wind then there will be wind.

I just looked at the isobars and they're looking pretty sweet. Don't want to jinx it though. Should be fun either way.

Well, how was it? Was hoping someone had posted a report by now...I suppose there'll be Sunday activities to cover as well.. Did want to thank all of you for leaving town though. It meant having "D'Bear' all to my
self. Though Pam reported another kite by Ramsey. Managed my own down-winder crossing on a B-6 and down-hill skis from the tip of Manitou Island to around the VFW. My first successful snow kiting for more than 50 feet!! The short feeling of exhiliration was soon tempered by the realization that I had to ski upwind back to my car. What were you guys saying about edging? Jim N
