Padre in April

Post by Chris B »

I am trying to get a trip planed around the first part of April. I have spoken to Steve B, Tighe, and Judd and they already have plans to be there or would like to get a trip planned. I would like to get a list of people that are interested so we can get started on air and accommodations. I have been looking online for prices and it seems that Sun country is one of the cheaper fairs at around $229 round trip. In two weeks it would be great to get together with those who are interested.

the Suncountry fares will come down. They always do later in the year. Last year they were $179 for the first and $99 for the second.

should be grand

Pete and I went down there last April - it was a ghost town. $169 fares, and the hotels were $35 - $50 a night - walk-in rates.

Breakfast at Ted's, and oh, and the wind was awesome...

I'm going this year - haven't figured out how, yet!

I would love to join you guys. Could you please give me some additional info, such as costs including but not limited to, air, hotel, transition from snow to water instruction, etc... Any firm dates been set yet? What size gear is normally used down there? (I have a 9m, & a 12m LEI)

Thanks,

I am trying to drum up a few people that are interested. Just get a preliminary list of people and do the finale planning in a few weeks. I have only been to SPI once when I was just learning, but Jude or Tighe would be able to answer any questions about wind or accommodations.

The wind in April can be really strong. I've used my 9m and my 19m. I think it has the most consistent winds of the year.

Accomodations go from camping to nice condos. It would be great to get a group and rent a condo for a month, with different people coming at different times. You can really get the price down that way. THere are also hotels though they tend to be really boring. I highly recommend finding something with a hot tub.

Lessons. Contact Jeff at AirPadre Kiteboarding, or Shane at S. Padre Island Kiteboarding. Their contact info is in the Destinations Page.

What part of the month is looking best for people? Anyone else bringing family? I'm considering bringing my 6 year old.

I'm definately in for going (I was planning on it anyhow). Denis I think was wanting to go as well, though I'm not sure what his schedule looks like. We were thinking slightly later april - after the 16th. We went in early May a couple of years ago and had a great time. It was windy every day, though Tighe is right - bring all your kites.

Add me to your list of people to contact...mfox at sfotechnology.com or 612-859-7062.

Thanks!
