Near as I can tell, friday will have the best winds of the weekend. Looks like East wind fri and sat and south sunday. I'll guess 15 to 20 Friday and 10 to 15 sat and sun.

Really? I'm seeing 5-10, 10-15 at best, 10-20 if we're lucky... hoping for more, but the meteogram don't lie too often...

How's the event shaping up?

Do we have many competitors coming? Any locals signed up? Tighe? Coach? Mike? Eric? Alex?

Wind looks pretty good all three days. As long as the double fake reverse move on dates didn't shake too many guys out of their airfare this could be an awesome weekend.

I thought the switching around would have screwed people up as well though from what I hear there should be a great turnout. There are quite a number coming in from Europe, some from Canada, and from all over the states. Last I heard there were 40+ competitors signed up. Numerous manufacturers are sending representatives as well.

Vojta has been working diligently on the course all week. I'm sure he could use anyone wanting to help out tomorrow moving snow. Plow, snowblower, or shovel anything would help. This event would not be taking place if not for his efforts. Thanks Vojta.

If Alex, Vojta, Joe, et al, are the level we can expect to see this weekend, it should be a grand event. If you've seen these guys on the ice recently you know what I mean. Their skill is unbelievable, with each trick out doing the last. They definately are pushing the limits. Their grace in the air is a joy to watch and an inspiration to us mere mortals. I appreciate the inclusion of myself in your question, though I am in no means at the same level as these guys, and if I were to compete I would most likely try to be and break this old body into tiny, tiny pieces. For this event I will be an athletic supporter...hehe.

The big unknown is the spectator attendance. The crowd factor can really drive up the competition and level of craziness. Email everyone you know, it should be a great show.

With the competition and all the free riding taking place around the event it should be an amazing visual: bright white snow, crisp true blue sky and every color in the rainbow dancing about overhead.

Whether or not this event will return to MPLS is uncertain. This may be the only chance to check out this kind event. Come on out, bring the kids, bring the dog ( maybe not), bring the wife, heck, bring the mother in law.

new forecast

Post by Coach »

Holy cow, Friday has been upgraded - and Saturday looks great, too.

It should be around 15+ knots Friday afternoon, and 20+ on Saturday, most of the day.

Let's hope that forecast holds.

As for locals competing, I haven't heard too much. I don't know about Vojta, but I would imagine Alex is in. Hopefully Joe L. is, too. I'm still on the fence - but might sign up given the nice forecast. I hope they're still accepting entries.

If you're on the fence, you should just sign up and compete. It's free, and you'll have a great time.

I competed in the Red Bull competition in Corpus this past August, and I had an absolute blast, not to mention the Red Bull parties at night. This isn't an invitation only competition so you don't have to be a pro to compete. Just compete and have a good time, and be sure to thank Red Bull for sponsoring this, and the other folks who put so much time planning this.

I may have been confusing in my last post. For sure anyone interested in competing should, no matter your level. Just to ride side by side with the pros would be a thrill. It just isn't for me. Our winter kiting community here is one of the strongest, if not the strongest, in the country. I hope there will be a good number of local kiters flying.

see you out there.

Thanks for the ego boost Barry, but I am not at the level of our elite group of local kiters either. Like Tighe, I plan to spectate. I tend to take foolish risks when crowds are present, and my body does not heal as fast as it once did. Of course, I will have my kites along just in case.
