Jerry S. and I are going to Waconia today to do some freeskating. Jerry will probably have his new switchblade attachment. Come on out if you can.

Sorry for the short description. I called my daughter and told her to post it in case anyone was heading out. I'm not sure how the ice was out on the lake, but near shore it was buckled and rough with a thin layer over water. Jerry and I checked out a few more lakes and finally settled on Howard Lake. It was OK for freeskates, we had some great rides. There were smooth spots interspersed among frozen ripples. I think the wind screwed up the ice as it froze. If anybody knows of smooth ice let us know. Meanwhile let's hope for some snow.

wayzata beach

Post by AP »

hey jeff

wayzata beach is working for hockey skates.
from there all of main bay to arcola bridge is fair game.
some bumps, rough spots but also some super glass.
attention! stay to the far right when getting on the lake when at wayzata beach. stay on the sand traverse right... go to the right of the ice boats or get wet feet.
see you out there.

I went in past my ass! Then drove over to Calhoun. Calhoun is real smooth. Just one pressure ridge w/sketchy ice around it. Jay went through up to his knees. That is one scary lake to kite on. Spine snapping gusts. You never know what is going to happen when you send the kite back!

Brad, where were you when you went in?

Got the day (Sat) off from the family, am itching to get out. Thinking about taking AP's advice and do Wayzata. Any thoughts?

I have had some bad body slams on Calhoun. I try to stay away from there. WBL turned out to be fine yesterday afternoon. More freeskaters that I have seen in a long time. Should be more fun there today.

Hey Mike,

Where is the launch site for White Bear for today's wind direction?

Bear not bare.

Those ice pellets stuck well to the ice surface today @ WBL. Tried my free
kskate with a 5.0, but was unable to gather enough momentum to move through the white stuff... Guess I'll have to get my foils, skis & board out
and see how I do. :D JN

Time to break out the kite Jim. I had the whole bay down at Mahtomedi to myself all afternoon. The new snow is really nice. Super fast. Plenty of edge for BIG air.
