Re: Millacs Ice Off

I was there last week-end. The bays are starting to open up and the ice is pretty soft near shore. It should break up this week and be clear a few days after that if the warmth holds.

Re: Millacs

Advice on swimmer's itch. I spend my week-ends at Malmo and have only had it once before I learned what to do.. I also have kids in the water and they have avoided it. The sectret is to stay wet and to towel off thoroughly when you come out of the water. An alternative is to rinse off with other wat...

Mike, I got there before noon and windsurfed the silver swell all alone until about 1 PM. I looked for an early arrival from you but missed you. I was way powered on a 4.7 and had a great time. There was still sun and I was very comfortable in my bag suit. What a great day! Will there be more?

Greg Heymans and I stayed local and went to Byllesby. A slight and varying amount of north component kept it from delivering its classsic steep swell but Greg on his 4.7 and I on my 4.1 had a great time. What a beautiful day to be out!

That launch is great so long as there isn't too much west in it. The shallowest part is at the southern end of the available shoreline.
Bill, you missed a couple of good southerlies and a 90 degree day on Saturday at Cannon. Mike, you were fun to sail around.

I don't know how the kiters did, but on Sunday between 2PM and 3:30PM is was blowing just south of Malmo and I was more than steadily powered on my 5.5 and 93ltr board. I checked the history on land and it said 18-26mph which is pretty consistent with what I had. It has happened several times that, ...

It was a litttle north of ideal at Byllesby but provided pretty constant planing on a 5.5/85l. Warm water, about to get the "green sheen" but still OK. A couple of new guys were there to learn in pretty good wind. Ray and Sasha.

The lake froze on Saturday night. It was 13F and still. The ice went as far as one could see. I expect that the warm weather and some wind will soften things up for the week-end. P.S. Sunday there were hundreds of swans sitting on the ice near Malmo. That evening they rose flock by flock and headed ...

Lost sail

This is a little late but.....Did anybody find a 4.7m Gaastra Freewave red/yellow in a green-blue bag at Cannon a month or so ago, or more? I found it missing the other day and realized I hadn't had it out of the van since then.

I've got a True Ames (I believe) carbon fin that I can part with. I'll check the length (I think it is 44+ cm). How long can you go?

The wind was light and south most of the day. I was on a walk by Malmo park and noticed the wind shifting westward and coming up so I walked back to the place fast. I sailed from just before six until six fourty overpowered on an old Waddel 6.4 race that was rigged in the garage. That sail can take ...

I'm working today. I'd stick with Hunter's for windsurfing if you are looking for bigger swell. Malmo will work also.

Mille Lacs

Was anyone at Father Hennepin or Izaty's on Saturday? I'm still curious about how a NW wind behaves in different parts of the lake. Malmo was 14-18 with perhaps some more in the mid PM. A littel less Sun early morning but got calm by 3PM.

Jibe woes

If my jibes didn't stall, and my chop hops weren't so whimpy, and my helitack attempts didn't slam me, I'd probably give up the sport. A lot of my enjoyment comes from the learning curve and the attendant humility. I've been at it for longer than I care to admit and it never gets old. Enjoy!

I was at Malmo this week-end. Sailed 6.5 on Sat but the wind was a bit up and down. Still great fun with steep ramps in places. I was curious to know what the wind was like at FH. I might have to head down there sometime. The wind turned more north on Sunday and probably affected the swell at FH.

It's been a good year for south winds up there. I guess if it gets hot enough those winds reach the lake. That sideshore sailing can become addictive. I'll have to drive down sometime to taste that FH swell on NW. In other cooler years there is always the green froth at Cannon. Still the best on sum...

Friday night it blew at Malmo. By 8AM I was on a 6.5. The wind backed off later but I sailed on a 7.5 most of the PM.
Monday it was beautiful until early PM. 5,5 heaven, warm water, smooth rollers, no gusts.
About as good as it gets anywhere unless you want breaking waves. This lake is really good!
