This is a new thread for the discussion about windsurfing clinics that started in the thread "The House". To summarize: some of us think it would be great if there were good clinics locally to help beginners join our sport. Randy mentioned that insurance issues are one reason The House doesn't offer on-the-water clinics.
I asked Roger Jackson about this issue, and he says that US Windsurfing has some provision for insurance for certified instructors. He says that it's easiest if they're part of a recognized Windsurfing School. I don't know if The House has someone with the energy to go through certification and get recognized as a "school" -- but I will say I think it would be a great business opportunity for growing the sport.

John,
I got certified (US Sailing) to teach windsurfing by Roger Jackson last year. I taught approx. 30 people last year in this area. Knowing the right way to teach makes a big difference. The insurance issue is still a big deal, and covered in the course. Roger should be able to fill you in on the details. I taught my 1st student of this season last Saturday.

clinics and insurance
Why doesnt windsurfing have an assocaition such as the American Water Ski association where the cost of the insurance is passed onto those who are participating in tournaments or clinics. Seems to me that the liability would be much greater in waterskiing than windsurfing. Seems there should be a way to bring some fun filled clinics on easy to learn equipment to those that are interested in the sport. Most people I know would be more apt to learn with a group of friends as a event rather than taking it upon themselves to take lesson on a individual class
