Bularoo help

Post by BillB »

I just got a 13m Bularoo. I'm still learning and was a little confused on how to set up the Bularoo depower strap, bar, and rear pigtail line when launching (assisted and self-launch) and practising on land. :?:

I'm a beginner (160lbs) and just starting out with inflatables (did some snow kiting this winter).

With the 13m Bularoo depower fully engaged... the kite launched but seemed be hard to control... it would hover overhead and fall out of the sky (right into the wind window). The winds were up and down 15-25+ mph yesterday and shifty. I'm guessing this setup made my rear line too loose and caused the control problems.... but I wasn't sure I wanted to power up when it felt unstable.

Are there any Bularoo/Waroo experts that could provide some advice?
...
Could you please describe what would be and appropriate way to set up the kite for launching, land practice, and riding?

Thanks,

Bill

Kudos on the 13m bularoo purchase

It makes me sorta of nervous to hear that your were out on a field solo as a beginner attempting to launch the 13m yesterday. Perhaps your skills are adequate and it was controlled but things can go badly quickly. Particularly with new unfamiliar gear.

I've not flown the 13 bularoo but if is anything like the 10m bularoo it likely pulls with the power of a kite a couple of meters bigger. It was indeed quite windy and gusty yesterday and I think a 13m, especially a bularoo, would be quite a handful for a beginner at only 160lbs.

That being said, Your probably correct in that your steering/back lines were to loose. Adjusting the depower strap-out-may have helped. In general I put the back lines on the 3rd knot from the end to start and adjust as needed- depending on the wind. Always initialy launch (try to launch) with the kite fully depowered as you were doing.

It takes awhile to get it all down and then even when you know it things can still happen.

I'd be happy to hook up with you and demonstrate a few things. Lessons with Tighe are certainly advised as well if your at that level.
