I know when Pat was putting up posts about S.P.I. I gave him a hard time.
I'd just forgotten how great it is to sail in STEADY wind in 85 to 90 degree temps in April. My biggest complaint is the suns too damn strong and I was having to wear rash guards to keep the sun off my little white a..!.
We had 8 days out of 12 with really nice sailing.
There was the usual contigent of Mn sailors down there, it's always a nice surprise who you are going to bump into.
Randy this is going to blow your mind, I was invited to a jam one night by some Co. sailors. When we got there the average age of the musicians was about 80, there was one guy playing the fiddle who had to be 90 and was stomping away like crazy, best tremolo I have ever heard. Think about it. Cool experience.
Hey the thing they say about about Formula boards planing in 10 knots is true, I always thought it was B.S but I suppose I was jaundiced by our winds. I had a late session on my 10.8 where it was 9 gusting 10. I thought what the heck, I'll try. 4 mile upwinds then stuffing it deep downwind never falling of the plane, talk about a gas and one hell of an opportuniity to tune the equipment. It's a pity the Laguna Madre is not in WBL.
Long and short of it, if you are a newby or you like warm weather early in the season, or the idea of steady winds and slalom blasting appeals, get your butts down to SPI, it's worth the drive and you never know who you'll bump into down there.
