waxing?

Post by drknap »

Is anyone waxing there board or skis? I know its extremely important in ski racing and x-country.
I think theres whole lot more to in than one would think-but I don't know it
It seems I sometime make matters worse and that I can never scrape all the wax off my board. Maybe not even that important in kiting as we ride the edge. hmm? Just wondering what others are thinking

I wax my board once every month or two. Like you mention, I don't think it is a big deal since we ride mostly on the edge. I typically wax just to keep the surface from getting marred. The first time I tried it, I used a plastic scraper and just made a mess of things, leaving all sorts of bumps on the board. But now I use a metal spackle knife and it seems easier to judge when you're done. Also, use some fine steel wool to make a nice smooth finish.

Kurt,

You should have said something sooner. I just finished waxing up the skis this morning. You can make it as simple or as complicated as you want. The main thing is to get as much extra wax removed from the surface (bottom). For our XC races it's always a guesing game of what flavor (color/hardness) of wax to iron in. The real fast guys should use klister (just kidding) I might even have some easy apply stuff along this weekend.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up,totally worn out and loudly proclaiming. WOW! What a ride!!

pete, do you put wax on the same way as skate skis? Iron in, scrape off, brush out?
