Probably father Hen. It is a bit of a tough launch, really helps t have some help. Also, I've never been there in the middle of a big vacation weekend, so the beach we usually use might be crowded. if that's the case it would have to be experienced riders only, drift launching from the area down wind of the swimming area.
Experimental is saying south west to west in the morning, then switching to a powered North west in the afternoon. Posibility of rain in the morning as well. I think I'll get to Malmo at around noon and ride down to Father Hennipen, hopefully arriving at around three or four, depending on hoe great of spots we find on the way. So far it's Stroh and Klimber planing this with me, anyone else up for an epic kite journey? See you at Malmo if you want to tag along, around 12:00.

Fun light wind riding today by the way. Lots of goofing off with a my new home made skim board, and 14 vegas. I was actually almost keeping up with Jon when he was on his 20, almost. Kind of funny, expensive new kite, and a super cheap chunk of plywood. Hope everyone has fun on tomorrows winds. Ride on.

the wind was light but we had alot of fun. the only reason I was able to ride all day was because of erics home-made ply's. his skim made light wind rideing fun, and his "glide Like" board I was powered the whole time. it's incredible what you scarfise to have a rocrer in your board
Tighe, cancel your plans.... when are you going to get another chance to explore the entire west side of milly?????? think about it
this is also a great chance for the less experienced kiter to experience Da Father on a NW
5 day weekend

We changed gears and went to Waconia. Believe it or not I was right. Everyone went north and there was parking and not to many boats.
Got now nice rides on the 17. Just Tom, Peter Hill and I for kiters.
How was the Big Mille!!!

I timed it pretty well at Father Hennepin. Just as I got the 16 rigged, the wind realy filled in. So I got the 12 ready for action. After some underpowered 12TD kiting, I went to the 16, which was great. Toward the end, I switched to plywood as the wind was really dropping.
Great day!
PS: Tighe, more proof that the 16TD generates significantly more power than the 12TD. I have tested both back-to-back about 5-6 times now in the same conditions. The 12TD has great range, but nothing like extra sail cloth in light air. When the wind drops below a certain threshold, kite speed doesn't matter as much as kite area. You need to try the 16 on a day when the 12 is not well powered to really feel the difference. Until then, your grumping about big kites is purely anecdotal.

i gotta agree with Tighe
the more and more I fly my 12 crossbow, the less and less I pull out the 16 crossbow
the speed on the 12 bows makes up for the size
12 + 150+ board and you are gold
the only exception i have found is if your launch is directly off ON shore and you need teh power to get upwind quickly

It depends what you want to do. If maximizing your fun in light air is your goal, then the extra power of the 16 is the ticket-- it does generate more power. If you are happy to be underpowered in the really light stuff, then the 12 will be fine as a one kite quiver. Don't get me wrong, the 12TD has amazing low end, and great range, but it does not have the power of a 16 bow. Smaller folks would be fine with just a 12.

Different strokes for different folks. I don't doubt that the 16 may have more grunt. All I was saying is I really enjoy having just one kite that works in all conditions. After over two decades of trying to decide what to rig, not having to make that decision again, is so refreshing.
Having said that, I am interested in the new lightwind bows that are coming out. If they can make them ultra efficient, there may be something there.

this is turning into a pissing match. I may have started it by poking back at Mike...sorry dude I couldn't resist.
Tip of the day:
If you like what you are riding, don't for a second think there may be something out there better. Try to avoid comparing someone else's session to your own..are they more powered up, or getting more hangtime, etc. If you get in that trap you'll end up broke and probably still wanting something else. It's not about gear. It's about the ride.
