Advice please - kiting for 4 days

Post by jamescarlyle »

Hi

I am visiting Minneapolis in late August and have 4 completely clear days to kitesurf. Should I hire a car and be ready to visit whichever lake was forecast to have wind on a day-by-day basis, driving out from Bloomington each day? Or should I pick one lake (perhaps further away) and wait for wind? If I was to pick one lake or area, where should I go?

Or should I consider taking a flight to the Gorge or Padre Island? Both these seem far for just 4 days.

I've got no real sense for how consistent the wind is in Minnesota though will pack my largest kite (20m).

Thanks

James

Tough choices. I think if you really want to ride, S. Padre has the best chance of wind, the Gorge would be second that time of year, and here in Minnesota would be last. Late August is a good time around here for wind though there are four day stretches without wind. Having a car and the willingness to drive definately increases your odds of finding wind. Many times there will be wind in one region which never makes it to others.

Feel free to use this chat for advice on where to go during your stay.

Hopefully we'll hook up and ride.
