Angle iron

Anybody aware of where I might pick up some heavy duty polished angle iron...1x1-3x3"?

Necessity is the root of all innovation or was it despiration was the root of all innovation?

Try you're local welding shop. I don't know about polished. That might take some old fashion elbow grease action.

Is someone thinking about grinding an edge on the angle and applying it to some kind of speed contraption?

I've got some ideas floating around. Speed isn't as much the driving force as simplicity and manueverability. I'll probably kill myself on the first prototype.

Hmmmm....... Years ago I got some skis for my buggy (Very home made, I think from Ted Doegerty, but don't quote me) The ski parts were made from old water ski or narrow snowboards (Not sure if snowboards as we know them were invented yet)...... Anyway... for the edges, he just had mild steel angle iron... worked OK on snow, with sharpening, would work on mixed snow/ice.. The rear ones were canted at an angle, so the inside edge of the ski/ angle iron was first in contact with the ice, but if you ran into snow, the rest of the ski would support the weight... I Really think they had some potential, if made with lighter materials and stainless stuff.. As they were, I think they weighed more than my Libre buggy!! When I ran away from home and ended up here, I left them behind....

Is there anyone out there that has some good plans on building an iceboard? I would appreciate any info! it looked like maybe there was some discussion on the subject.

Dave, I built one about 4 years ago modeled on the Fiberspar Freeskate. It works really well. I will sell it for cheap because I mostly kite now. Send me an email if you are interested.

Metal?

Go down to 1st street just south of Broadway by the river. Lots of stuff... steel, iron, aluminum, alloy, stainless steel... in bar, round, angle, sheet, extruded, or whatever.

Name? I can drive there, but I can't remember what the place is called. Lots of ratty, junk-yard kind of places just brimming with possibilities. I usually go to the first one south of Broadway on the river side of 1st.
