I see that you are online on the the Lakawa forum. I haven't seen you since last year at the Gorge with Mike and Brian. Are you heading out this year? I really learned alot from you. I watched and followed you around upwind of the Hackery. You really do a nice jibe on the swell.
Thanks!

Hey Eric,
Good to hear from you. Heading out to the Gorge 7/15 to 7/24 this year. Hope that you can make it at that time too.
It was fun to sail with you last year as well. You are very inspirational with your desire to learn the sport. I wish I picked it up as fast as you have. It took me years to get to the point you're at in just a couple years.
Heading to Pepin today to sail in the rain. Looks like it will be OK.
Maybe see you there.
Let me know when you'll be at the Gorge.

Eric,
Sorry I missed you. Chris Brown and I got to the point around 12:30, and it had a bit of South in it, so we went back to the wayside rest.
Sailed powered up 5.0 until 3:30, then it got a bit light and we bagged it.
How was the point?
Looks like it came back up later, and is in the 20's now.
Might be good West wind on Monday. If so, I'll most likely sail out of Pepin WI.

It's the new gear!
Yesterday I took out my last year 7-oh on a brand new skinny mast http://www.powerexmasts.com/wave_rdm.htm and my 116L board and I had about as much fun as I ever have. What a difference a mast makes. Just be careful with the new stuff. Read the Manual. I put my mast togeher BACKWARDS! Rich F pointed that out and everyone had a good laugh on me (It might actually work backwards but you will notice that the mast base doesn't quite fit as well where the top of the mast should insert into). Skinnies are weired. I've color coded my ends now heeh.
A bunch of sailors; Jeff G, Dave T, Dave C, Rich F, Mike D, Jerry S, Anne from Wilmar, and myself hit Green Lake in Spicer. It was really good. Everyone was looking like they were having a good time. The wind was perfect for the launch we chose, the public launch on the NW side of the lake.
It was blowing East or SE, I didn't have a compass but it was definately nice side on shore. Getting out from this tricky launch was a snap. The line up was such that Dave C sailed all the way to Spicer to get some fluids. He told me that his only problem was comming back. He was on his 6.3 heading up wind to Spicer but it turned into 5-oh on the way back.
I laughed in understanding as he told me how he made it back, almost straight downwind. Dave said, "I was so powered up I had to look for the lulls. When a lull came I headed downwind and rode it as far as I could."
I feel ya! I've been there many times with the big GO and large fin. You tend to get so far upwind without noticing. Trying to get back to the beach you have to flip your mentality. You start looking, and hoping, for lulls. I'd rather be at that point (looking for a way to get back to the lauch) than trying to fight my way back up wind to get home.
Being fat, my mantra is always: GO BIG
The new gear makes that SO easy.
