Carbon boards (Like Tabou brds) Vs. plastic Brds (Bic Tecs)

Post by Quetzalcoatl »

Just my "mumbled" opinion:

I DO haved Plastic windsurf boards and Carbon boards and a GLASS board!

Most Carbon Windsurf Boards are lighter than plastic boards.

But Carbon boards DO break easier than Plastic boards. Many times, If I'm not concentrating 100%
when carrying a windsurf board into the house or pulling it out of the car, Bam! I'll bump the board on car door
or metal door frame of house and there'll be a serious chip or ding on my carbon board (which will require a small repair). But the Plastic board can usually survive a "not concentrating" bump.
One cold November night, in the dark I tripped over the tongue of a boat trailor as I was carring my Plastic Fanatic 105
liter Gecko board and BAM that board dropped hard on the cement! Result? Not a scratch on it!

Now Glass boards....they "Really" look like they are made of Glass. (Like Stainless Glass windows). They are pretty strong,
I think stronger than carbon boards. They get a bump and tend to have a "Starburst" impact look, but still O.K. to sail with.

But any board will get serious damage if you hit the nose or really any part of the board with the boom head in strong wind.

Just my two pesos worth.

Windsurf man (aka: Quetzalcoatl) out.
