Drive On!!

Post by Barry P »

Harty's gate is open on Medicine! http://mnlakecams.com/harty/harty.html

I drove on to WBL and rigged two days ago.

How are things shaping up on Minnetonka? Driveable to Kite Island yet?

I'm going to stop at Medicine and kite on my way home (4-4:30?). Anyone else?

I drove to the island today the ice is 13 to 16 inches. Please look out for drifts. The ice was
Thinner under them and keep the speed down driving fast is not safe. And remember the ice is never safe. I did not test the whole bay so do not drive all over unless you check the ice.

I was on Mille Lacs with Twin Cities Live KARE11 last Tuesday. The surface was 50% covered. As it would have it with winds and media it was quite light. The piece airs tomorrow, Tuesday, not sure what time there show is. They are featuring that area for tourism in general and not even sure our filming will make the cut.

The temp was above freezing while we were out there and ice was heaving on shore, so much that you couldn't drive out.

Harty's locally on Medicine Lake is a great access with webcam support! He's asked that if you choose to use his spot to simply stop in and throw a couple $'s in his tip jar for maintaining the access. There is also another access at Clifton E. Frensh Park on the other side, straight west that is free. Lot's of areas that get less tracked up to explore.

Since all of this fits under the theme of the subject Drive On, I'll add another:

Excelsior Brewery Kite Race Feb 7 http://www.active.com/excelsior-mn/wint ... -open-2015

WISSA International Kite Race 2015 Feb 9-14 in Fon Du Lac WI http://www.wissa2015.com/

11th Annual Mille Lacs Crossing March 6-8 http://www.magslate.com/i/436004/32

Wish I had time to chat with you Saturday Barry. I had my hands full with students, trying to keep them from kite bombing your car  What a nice day it turned out to be!
