Nice and windy B4 the rain.

Post by jenny »

NOAA posted winds at white bear at 1:53pm today to be 35 gusting to 46....Hope someone got a piece of that. Stuck at work thinking of what might have been. My last outing was fun, but underpowered... I only was out for a quick session after work w/o enough time to rerigg b4 dark. Waitng for next time. Hopefully tomorrow will be bring some more wind. I always wanted to try the crossing, but I don't have a long board yet.... Good sailing to all who are doing the crossing. See you next time.... :)

Yes...it was a nice unexpected treat that lasted about half an hour with some great summery 7.4M before the winds freshened to 4.5M. It's been an interesting week. I was in Albert Lea for Monday's wind, sailing a lake that's usually only 2-4' deep, but with the flooding it went up to 6-10' deep with a totally different water texture. I've never sailed that lake with ramps, waded in water up to my chin where I usually rig, and had to waterstart where it's usually only ankle deep. I saw the Mother gave it up on Wednesday, but I missed it. Hope someone got a piece of it.

I'm hanging out more down in Albert Lea these days with some commitments to my dad's health care, so unfortunately won't make the Crossing this year. My thoughts will be with all of you taking the Challenge. Many thanks to Jeff and Jane for making the trip out to The Square last night, to Kathy and James, and Mike and Meri. During these 'squeeze times' of life, it sure is nice to have a piece of wind and a piece of precious moments with friends.
Ride...just be it!

Yes, a few of us got out to enjoy the wind before the storm moved in.

I'd put the winds at WBL-R in the 15-25mph range during the half hour I sailed on a 5.5 before making a mad dash to shore with the storm front approaching fast.

You could see there was a lot of wind in the clouds leading the storm. Everyone made it off the lake in OK. As were all frantically derigging someone yelled to look out on the water... a vortex of wind 50 feet across was kicking up 20 foot sprays of surface water as it churned north in a ragged way across the bay  . Not well formed or violent enough call a waterspout, but we were all glad to be watching from a distance.
