Reusse on Worthington

Post by Dave Schneider »

Who caught this in Reusse's column today in the Strib?

WORTHINGTON, the bustling burg on the Minnesota prairie, again is out to prove itself a reliably windy location with a windsurfing regatta Friday through Sunday on Lake Okabena.

A year ago, the U.S. National Championships were held the second week of June in Worthington. The windsurfers enjoyed the party atmosphere and the related music festival, but the wind?

"It was unreasonably calm here that week," said Doug Wolter, the editor of the Worthington Daily Globe. "But the way it's blowing down here now [Monday] . . . those surfers are going to have all the wind they could want later this week."

I hope he's right.
Truth is even if the wind doesn't blow Jeff and Bill put on such a weekend it's worth the trip.

Nationals always seems to be a wind-killer. I went to Nationals in the Gorge once, and the wind sucked for a whole week... Blew solid 3.5 to 5.0 for the week before and after. :? heh.

Now that Worthington is back to a normal event, it should be windy enough. :-)
