Byllesby dam, lake get pushed to full
by Ken Haggerty
Heavy rains across the entire upstream area of the Cannon River last week had Lake Byllesby and the Byllesby Dam at levels not seen since the historic spring storm and snow melt of 1965.
Water levels at the dam peaked at an elevation of 859.92 feet at about 6 p.m. on Friday, according to Dakota County Water Resources director David Swenson.
Operators try to maintain the reservoir pool at an elevation of 856.7 during the summer and 853.7 in the fall and winter.
Water volume flow at the dam peaked at 16,600 cubic feet per second, staggeringly above a normal flow of 800 cfs at this time of year. On Monday morning, the elevation was still 858.6 with the flow at 11,700 cfs.
Lake Byllesby water level back to normal.
