Weed Fins can SAVE you....

Post by Quetzalcoatl »

Weed fins are not only good to keep you screaming through weeded lakes, (Windsufing)one
but work good as protection from Debris, flotsam, Big logs in the water after heavy rains
or spring flooding. Two years ago (early May) four of us were windsurfing off the Pt. (Lake City, MN)
on Lake Pepin. One guy was lucky (no problem with fin) but two others sustained damage! The wave or Straight fin
will usually cause you to come to a "Dead Stop" when you hit those semi-submerged logs when the Sun is in your eyes.
With regular fin one guy came to a dead stop and flew forward and hit his hip and hurt it pretty bad on the mast. The other guy came to all stop and went flying through his 8.5 Maui sail! ( I later had the opportunity then to sell him
one of MY Ezzy 8.5 sails as a replacement).
I was on my very well racked back Weed fin and Ocassionly hit a log and either went right over it, no problem
Or bumped a few things and they slid right under my "racked back weed fin.
Be sure you have a "Weed Fin" in your quiver for those weed lakes or to avoid debris in water after flooding.
I call 'em "Debris Fins!"
