Safe Ice anywhere near metro area?

Post by Chummers »

Can anyone report on any safe ice for sailing near the metro area? I'd think by Saturday (12/19/15) there has to be 3 inches of ice somewhere not too far away, right? something west or northwest of Minneapolis???

There has been iceboating on lake Christina near ashby MN the last two weekends, but still fairly thin with holes. With the current cold, it should be OK on Saturday. This one is an early freeze due to consistent shallow depth, so I doubt you will find anything else closer.

As of 10 AM Saturday, Swede lake has 1.5 - 2.0 inches of ice. Waconia is locked in with about 1 inch of ice and several holes in the middle.
