Mille Conditions

Post by Matt V »

I gave Garrison a shot today (Wednesday). I am optimistic that it will be good for the meet once it warms up. It is a soft ride now, but most of the 5 inches blew down wind. Only about 3 inches in some places though some spots are 6 inches plus the old snow underneath. The glare ice spots that were covered by the recent snow have not bonded. You can slip on your butt easily in 4" of good snow where the glare spots are underneath. Again, problem should be solved with the heat this weekend. Good news is that I think you could drive anywhere around Garrison on the ice since the snow is not hardpacked and thinner than yesterday.

Malmo saved the day after I got disgusted with Garrison. Soft new snow and some hard pack that you could not drive through. Garrison had dust devils of snow wrecking the kite. Malmo was clean wind. I would not risk a jump at Garrison with all the slideouts over the glare ice spots. Hard to reliably set an edge, let alone the landing. Malmo was perfect for playing around and there is no glare ice under the snow that slips an edge.

If you intend to kite at Garrison, kneepads, elbow pads, and butt pads (for snowboarders). Malmo is the place for pre-kiting the meet. Leave Garrison for this weekend.

Thursday - Hit Malmo again today Great session in the afternoon on a big kite. Snow is the best down there. Still, if you go over the handle and tap a knee, it really hurts as you punch all 5 inches through. Even through the hard capped knee pads, it hurt pretty bad.
