Any thin ice on Medicine Lake we should be aware of?

Post by KitingKen »

Looks like some snow coming Tuesday and ample SE wind. Was thinking of hitting Medicine from the north boat launch. Has anyone been out? Any thin ice or other dangers out there?

thanks!

I could have swore I saw a news blurb just yesterday about a truck going through on Medicine but I can't seem to find anything about it on the internets. Would be interested to know what the conditions are like after this ice/snow mix.

I know there was a truck that went through the ice on Cooks bay on Minnetonka a week or two ago, hadn't heard about Medicine. Part of my concern is that I lived right by Cooks bay for 20 years and never once saw any thin ice or open water on that bay. Was very surprised that the truck driver said it was only an inch thick in some spots. Must have been an underwater spring or something. And the lakes are low this year due to the dry fall and that's when weird things happen.
