Slingshot Rally Quivers

Post by Matixsnow »

With 3 years of Rallys, what have you found to be the best quiver for MN (assuming 3 kites)? I would imagine the 14 is a must for anyone riding a twin tip. From there, would you go 12m? or skip to a 10m?

Possibilities:
08/10/14
09/12/14
10/12/14
Other?

Thanks.

All great options. Need a bit more info, before I can give an accurate answer.
How much do you weigh?
How powered up do you like to ride? ie do you like to rid pretty lit if you can and like big air? Or?
Which year Rallys are you looking at?

Thanks

Thanks Tighe. I weight 195 lbs and ride a 135 TT. I like riding powered, jumping etc... Looking at all years in the Rally. Is there a year in the Rally you like best?

Sounds like the 2011 12m is smaller than the average 12m...

I like the 2014s the best. They are bigger than the previous years so I'm on the 10 when I would have been on a 12, and I'm liking that. The new 14 is one of the best light wind kites I know of.

If you are looking at anything other than 2014 kites, I'd go 14,12,9. The 12 was the money kite in my book prior to 2014, when it got replaced by the 10. We have more light wind days than high wind days so weighting your quiver on the larger sizes helps. I think you'll miss a few big days if you go 14/12/10.

The 2011 and 2012s were the most similar. The 2013s are a lot more stable and handle gusts much better than previous years at the sacrifice of nimbleness. The 2014s have more adjustability than the 2013s allowing you to dial them in to your liking...though in general are 10% bigger than the previous years kites of the same size.

Hope that helps

Tighe,

What quiver are you liking for your 2014 Rallys? I know you listed 14/12/9 for non-2014 Rallys.

Thanks.

Three kites?? That's tough. In my mind the 10m in the 2014s is the money size. Super quick, insane range, boosts to the moon, super stable, does everything well. The 14m is amazing for light winds. Could you get by with the 12m for light winds, sure I guess with a bigger board...but why? You'll have a lot of fun in 10-14mph on the 14m. So then the question is do you go 12m or 8m for your third kite? (I assume your mainly riding in the midwest) You will use the 12m more than you'll use the 8m. The 8/10/14 quiver will never leave you missing a day riding. The 14/12/10 quiver might leave you out on the biggest days (1-3 a year maybe). Suppose you could also do 14/12/9, you'ld just be missing the awesome 10m. I've heard the 9m is sweet as well. Tough call. I think any of them work well. I am leaning toward either 14/12/10 or 14/12/9 just because we have a lot of days that might be right between the 10 and the 14m. You could ride either on those days but you would probably want the 12m.

or go 14/12/10/8 and not stress over if you have the best kite. : ) Actually though you would have a great quiver with just the 10 and the 14 and a couple sizes of boards.

You can't go wrong with any of these options. good luck
