I just started water kiteboarding this summer and had to find somewhere close. After searching everywhere I found one that I like. I live in Winona MN so the closest lake is Pepin, which is an hour away.
My spot is located here:

in the middle of the Mississippi river. Accessible only by boat this time of year because the shoreline gets very weedy. Its really nice because it doesn't get too deep. I have rarely ever seen another person in the area so its pretty much private. Here is a depth chart I made.
Here is a video I made. I am at about 12 hours total kiting right now, so my riding isn't very impressive, but it gives you a nice idea of what the place looks like. I'm riding a 10m Cabrinha switchblade and a 146 Cabrinha plasma. The wind speed on the kite view parts was just over 10mph so I didn't go too far into the deep water because I was having hard enough time keeping the kite in the air.

You might want to check out this spot by lacrosse, WI. I used to canoe here and there's a park. It's on the south side of Lake Onalaska on French Island. Probably a 1/2 hr drive from Winona. Nice point can be rode most directions. Might be weedy.

I have always wondered about that area. We boated down to oktoberfest last year and were going to check the area out, but the entrance to it from the main channel was so weedy so we turned around. Next time I'm in the area I will definitely check it out.magicninja wrote:You might want to check out this spot by lacrosse, WI. I used to canoe here and there's a park. Has anyone else tried lake onalaska? I was under the impression it was all weeds, but maybe I'm wrong.
