Lets gather at Mille this Thursday and Friday

Post by Tighe »

Conditions look incredible for Thursday and Friday on the north side of Mille. Reddy creek and Malmo should be good.

I'm in. Windalert and weather.com giving good reports, NOAA not reading the same. a lot lower wind predictions, but still haven't flown my new rig so I'll take the chance. Friday might have to catch a case of the 24 hour flu. (Cough cough) oh no I feel it coming on. George

Hey Tighe, what's it look like tomorrow. your knowledge of mille weather surpasses mine. I've found that the wind seems to be much lower on a southerly at reddy than predicted. Thought she petered out while coming across the lake. but I'm still a rookie. Got kite will travel. George

I'm going to look again in the morning. The local lakes will be a zoo with boaters. I'm going to head up unless it drops below 15-20mph. Surprisingly Malmo and Reddy can have very different winds. I usually check both.

Scanning the forecasts this morning I'm thinking of going west instead of North. It looks like the wind may not make it as far east as Mille and stay mainly in the western half of the state. There is a crew of us heading to Miltona just north of Alexandria. Just over 2 hours from the cities. The launch is on the North side.

Enjoy the day, whereever you go. May the wind be at your back

Ok. I might still head to mille. Need to work on board skills and don't want to be in boaters, kiters, surfers , beachgoers , fisherman's way. Probably a lot of traffic onthe water today. Hope to see some company. Good luck, have fun.

Can anyone tell me where in Malmo? I see the town on the map, but where do you actually turn off and get access to the lake?

Ken I'm at malmo now going to check out reddy creek. Follow hwy 47/18 North till you reach 220th st. There will be a gas station and fireworks stand. Take a left on 220th and keep straight at the curve. You will run into a park. Thats malmos launch. George

Anybody at Malmo today? I'm in Onamia and the wind looks great here. Should be knocking off in an hour and will drive to the north side of Mille Lacs.
Is Malmo the best launch for today's conditions?

Turned out to be a great day at reddy yesterday! Light morning session, then picked up nicely in the afternoon.

yes what a great day yesterday. LOVE LOVE LOVE Mille. Nothing like those big rollers, clean troughs, and steady wind. What a playground. Lots of great smiles on the water.

There were a few people working on body dragging etc at Reddy. I highly recommend Malmo for that. The amount of shallows is so much greater at Malmo, and you'll be able to take much longer runs before walking it back up wind. Also a lot safer as the wind is usually a bit more side shore so you're getting pulled along the shore instead of into the shore. It really is the best place in the state for working on skills. And it is a great launch for the more experienced. Grassy rigging, Picnic tables, and just beyond the shallows you are right out into the big rollers.

great day...s ; )

I was at Reddy on Thursday and went to Malmo on Friday just for the lush grass and space to maneuver. Had the best couple days of progression on my board skills. Actually got to do some deep arcing carves for the first time. Mmmm tasty. Got to see a lot of people haven't seen in a while. Good fun. Yeah love me some mille.
