Mille Lacs Crossing March 1st-3rd

UPDATE:
Sign up link was broke is previous message: Here it is http://fleet8.com/?p=148

9th annual Kite Crossing

The ninth annual Mille Lacs Kite Crossing is on track to continue as one of the largest and most dynamic snowkite events in the country. Last year, Mother Nature challenged the possibility of even doing the event with open water into January, but then became a team player providing us with some of the best conditions since the first Kite Crossing. Check out and relive last year's event at http://youtu.be/d82V0QSOYzI.

Registration We have attached the Notice of Challenge in a PDF format. It should provide all the necessary information. We will be accepting electronic registration by e-mail. If you have registered for a Fleet 8 event in the past two years and nothing has changed, just provide your name, category, shirt size and preferred e-mail address for receiving Updates. You can pay by Paypal by going to the Fleet 8 web site. The PayPal button is a Donate button and has a fixed amount of $30 until midnite Tuesday, the 26th, then the $40 late fee goes into effect. You can find all this by scrolling down the page at http://fleet8.com/?p=148. Guest banquet fees can be paid at the site.

Riders of all levels are encouraged to attend. Come out, meet riders from around the area, share the stoke, check out some new gear and learn some new moves. We would also like to thank our hosts at the Harbor Inn, Garrison VFW, Y-Club and around Garrison as well as our loyal sponsors.

Help Appreciated As always, volunteer help is appreciated. Additional snowmobiles may be needed, so if you are not ready for the challenge and/or have friends with machines, contact us. We would also appreciate help with site setup as well as terrain park development. Even if you want to participate, or have a guest that would like to contribute, contact us at Fleet-8@juno.com. Let us know of your projected arrival and your interest of contribution.

Yee Haa!!! You know that the West Side Boyz will be there!

What does the core group think about setting up some kind of wager format to make things a little more interesting?

Perhaps it should be a weekend point total competition to determine the overall Champion??? It could be a total points contest including points earned in the ‘main distance event’ plus free ride, slalom, and jumping points to be made available.

Also include points earned off the ice for: Extra ordinary accomplishments including: Miles traveled to the event, what goodies and services you contribute; including help to set up and tear down. Also things like hot tub exhibitions and extraordinary feats demonstrated at the Blue Goose: Example; superior kite-surf sticker placement, etc.

We could place pre-event wagers on the favorites with odds. Right now I would place Woody and Bryce as the favorites considering their overall A games and expertise. But course we have many contenders…

You’re Thoughts??? :D

This sounds dangerous! Or at least hazardous to my ability to kite in the morning like last year.

JohnK, I updated the post with more info.

Basically a long race on Sat or Sun and a huge freeride all other times.

There will be a group of us winter camping out on the lake again if people are interested! Otherwise there are some good hotels in Garrison.

I just had a good comment from Jason Y:

Glad the navigation link worked from his cell phone to pay. He was alerted from this thread and followed the link to Facebook
-->Fleet-8 -->PayPal and paid all within a few clicks from his phone, note you can skip the Facebook link and head straight into Paypal link here http://fleet8.com/?p=148. It was good to hear the simplicity and mobile ability. He also stated a good reminder that the $30 is great for cost of meal and tshrt alone, the race is just a bonus! So, if you are considering going it's worth the $30 to sign up now, or $40 after Tuesday Feb 26th.

Should be a great time.

For the Crossing: Swag from my vendors to give away too:) Ozone, Best, shirts from Slingshot last year (oye, dropped the ball on that one), Ion, North, etc. I've requested more from other vendors I carry like Loki and GoPro. I'll bring what there is and give give give away. Look for me with the grill next to the keg Excelsior Brewery is providing. I'll have some grillables while they last but don't be shy, I'll share my heat:) I've also coordinated some film/media coverage and even outfit a few with GoPros. Let me know if you are available to be involved. mike@lakawa.com

Hey all, I recently signed up but am a bit worried about the low wind forecasted for this weekend. As I haven't been to the crossing in the last couple of years, what would happen to the event if a wind isn't strong enough? Postponed? Cancelled? other? Cheers!

Just gotta believe. We have had no wind Crossings before. Usually there is an assortment of craziness going on, a fair bit of BSin', and good times all round. Always a good time no matter what mother nature provides us.

Mille has a system to it's own. Forecasts are fairly inaccurate for that lake. Having said that I was pleasantly surprised to see the forecasts moving in the right direction today.

Do people generally hang out in the same place? I am heading up north and would like to stop by, but Mille is a big place.

Wonderful to see so many at the Harbor Inn in Garrison last night. Today looks to be the best day to socialize and get caught up on gear and tech talk. If you can make it up we'll have a congregation of quite a few people welcoming you.

Sunday is looking like really nice winds:) We are diong the racers meeting at 9:30am in the organizers tent on the ice then shooting to start the race at 10:30am, roughly 16 miles. Lots of free riding and spectating happening too. Hope you can join us!
