Cancun kiteboarding

Post by djmadmike »

Hola! I am headed to Cancun to do a presentation next week, so I am hoping to get in a bit of kiteboarding while I am there. It is a short trip (wed-sun), but I should have most of the afternoon open for 3 days.

Any recommendations?

I think the airlines are still hosing people $150 EACH way for an oversized bag to Mexico. Really? WTH. Plus I don't have a ton of time down there either, so I was wondering if any place would rent just a board? I may grab my 12 M kite as a carry on and fill my suitcase with the rest of my gear :D

2 years ago when we were there, we hit up Isla Blanca and it was amazing!!!

Open to any ideas/suggestions

One of the local beginner snowkiters is down there right now looking for waterkite lessons. If I can get a hold of him through email, I will let you know what he found out.

It was a bust for Greg getting lessons,

Was told to wait on a street corner for an instructor that never showed

Was told that some guys kited up north on windy days, but no one showed up on a 20mph day

Chased some kiters down the beach 2 miles but they got away before he got there

But he did get to fly his trainer out in the water.

HA! That sounds like Mexico at times!

The first time we went to Isla Blanca 2 year ago, I thought were going to get lost for sure just trying to get there.

We finally find it, and drive out there, to find NOBODY! And it was blowing 15-20 mph!

We rode there the whole time and I think only 2 other people even showed up.

I appreciate the follow up. I packed my suitcase full of my gear and will bring my 12 M and hope for the best.

Get ahold of Alfredo, most know him as Alex, that's near where he grew up and likes to help. http://www.lakawa.com/phpBB/posting.php ... 33&p=58933

Have a great time Mike!
