There are a few of us on the westsiieeed too. Lake Manawa in Council Bluffs, IA was awesome to us from February till the end of June. Got a perfect day yesterday (Wednesday) too. The wind is almost always higher here than Des Moines. But I have to admit, a SSE on Saylorville can be much cleaner than it ever gets on Manawa.

At Manawa, there some shallow flats that you can walk out on for hundreds of yards if you know how they lay out. Best wind is S or SSW. SSE is kind of iffy, but SE is great on the east side of the peninsula if you are a solid upwind kiter and do not need to rely on a shallow flat as a crutch. But there is still a 40yd shallow flat on that side that we use to launch/recover with anchors buried in the sand bottom. Boat traffic can make for choppy water on the weekends.

Right now, us Omaha kiters are focusing our weekends Calamus Reservoir near Burwell in central Nebraska. Massive white sand beaches and the absolute best wind in Nebraska are the main attraction. Winds typically exceed the forecast for Burwell by at least 3-5mph. Last Sunday was forecast to be a base of 23mph and my 220lbs was completely overpowered on a 9.5m delta so it was at least a base of 30mph. The area is also beginner friendly on every wind direction if you know where to go (not hard to figure out). The best thing about the lake is that if you get blown down wind or have a kite failure, there is beach around the entire lake that you can simply walk back upwind on. There is also so much beach right now, that getting to where you want launch by the water is a bit annoying. Skimboarding at these lake levels is awesome too. Lots of flat sand beach to skim on those days where the wind does not blow.

Calamus Reservoir near Burwell, NE - Showing large fall beaches due to record draw down.

Beaches are all fine blow sand from the sand hills. No native rocks or even gravel at this part of the lake.

I sent him a facebook message. Looks like the wind will be good down at Saylorville tomorrow. I got out today at Twin Lakes (north lake) and had a great session.

I met these guys last night and I think we have them all squared away. Thanks for the heads up! We can use a few more kiters in Des Moines. :D
