Submersible radios

Post by Netdewt »

Anyone carry a radio or other means of communication in case you need help while on the water? I was considering getting something like this:

I was thinking about something like this for my phone. They claim you can use the phone while it is in the baggie but it would be nice to find user reviews…. The radios are probably OK but you will never get the claimed range and of course you need someone on the other end to answer.

Oh yeah, I have seen those too. It seems like they would be awkward, but I don't know...

Another option would be get a real Marine VHF radio, but they are pretty expensive and large. You would be able to communicate with someone else on the marine band or call for help if necessary.

There is a new water resistant phone. Also, they used to recommend carrying a whistle so people could know you wanted help and to help locate you.

If you could bring your iphone then your friends could use the new 'Find my Friends' app to exactly locate your position using gps if something unfortunate were to happen.

THERE ARE ALSO THE EMERGENCY BEACON LOCATORS THAT BACK COUNTRY SKIERS CARRY. Maybe we can get geo-locator chips imbedded in our necks a la PetMart?
