In the middle of Browns Bay on Tonka there is a small area that has a 1/4" layer of ice suspended about 5" over the main ice sheet. It is hidden by snow. I found it today! It removed my skis, loaded the kite, and supermanned me through that 1/4" ice. It sounded like I was going through. Nice! The entire left side of my body is thrashed.

Wow, harsh! That is certainly an area commonly traveled by kite. Can you be more specific where it is? Something like that should be marked. I did hear about the iceboaters hitting some "shell ice" out there a couple weeks ago. Five inches is pretty major. I wonder how many other surprises may be out there? Thanks for the heads up!

Brian.....I know what you are talking about! I ran over that patch three times already and on the third time through it ate my ski and I ate some ice. Maybe someone with an ATV or a snowmobile should head out there and mark the spot with some stakes or something. Is a dangerous spot for all lake goers.
Only seems to be about a twenty or thirty square feet zone but is a dangerous spot......If you all see sinky looking snowmobile tracks then you are there.
Good luck all be safe....look alive!
