Racing Event on Mille Lacs SUNDAY - Garrison - 10AM

Post by Bryce »

I'd like to see if there is interest in doing a racing event up on mille lacs on Aug 21-22nd.

I know many people aren't that interested in the racing or competition, but I'll urge everyone to give it a try! Racing against other people (even if it is just with a couple friends) can help build up board and kite skills in a different way then just cruising on the water. I know that during the winter crossing, having someone neck and neck with you does a lot to help you figure out how you can ride just a little faster or more efficiently!

I am still open to a racing format. I was thinking of having 4-6 people start off and round a bouy and then go back through the gate. The first and 2nd one back wins the heat. The winners from that heat will race against each other to determine the winner.

Please post if your interested. I'd like to get a group of people that are committed to coming up, so we are sure to have enough people as a minimum to race. There might be a small fee to offset the insurance cost, so I'll get that amount figured out right away.

Also people are more then welcome to come up to freeride, socialize and cheer on the racers! It will be fun to see everyone up there!

UPDATE:

For the pre-registration, post on here or email me (sieg01@gmail.com) and let me know your coming by next thursday and the entry fee is $10. If you registrar onsite then it will be $15. I am trying to keep the costs to a minimum to get everyone out there and trying it out. Also let me know if you are kiting or windsurfing. If we have enough windsurfers interested then I'll make a few racing heats for you guys too!

I'd like to run the race at either garrison or malmo depending on the wind. I'll keep it updated and let everyone know on here and mnadventure.

Update 2:

With the wind direction it looks like Garrison is the best spot for the race. I mapped out what the race it going to look like. 2 laps with around a buoy that is slightly upwind of starting buoys. Looks like it will be fun! They bumped up the forecast again!

The Racers meeting will be at 10am near the water in garrison. We will start running heats as soon as the wind is high enough to get everyone moving.

Bryce,

Excellent idea. If there's sufficient interest, I suggest different race categories -- say "A" and "B" levels. The "B" level would still be a competition, albeit a friendly one, but pitting those of us who can't hope to compete with the world-class riders at Mille Lacs with each other.

Let's hope for wind on Aug. 21 & 22.

Thanks for the responses, Sound like we can get something off the ground.

Marc, I'll look at doing that depending on how many people we get signed up.

Alex, What would you like to see to have a non-boring event? I can take the criticism, but your not giving much to go on there.

Awww... Alex, this is going to be fun! I think you'll be super at it. It's only boring if you're afraid to lose :-)

Yup I'm going to set that up here soon! I'll make a couple of charts showing how the race is going to be run.
