epic weekend! heres my story

Post by GrahamMansell »

so, i was on Rice Lake with Logan, and we were at the end of the lake by the windsock. i jumped, caught a gust and went up about 10 feet higher than i wanted to go. i was mayble 20 feet off the ground, when i begin my downfall. i hit the ground, hit my head, saw the flash of light and black! i was out for less than 2 seconds. I looked around, and couldnt remember what kind of kite i had, where i was, or what had just happened. Travis came and talked and asked if i was ok. i said i dont know. Im ok now, no worries.

God thing i wore my helmet though, because i wouldve had a very serious injury otherwise.

I don't boost much at that end due to the gusty conditions. When I see the windsock moving left and right like that, it's a no-go for flight. Glad to hear you are ok!

I'm still learning the finer points of jumping high and safe, but I'm guessing you over-sent the kite...

Just remember, especially when jumping in high wind or gusty conditions, to keep pressure on your front hand - don't get too far in front of the kite or you are going down, down, down...

load and pop, load and pop, load and pop...

In gusty wind... When you jump and are lifted up by a gust, when that gust stop (or you get a lull), you will fall much faster then usual. You can get a much harder then usual landing (even if you don't hit your head :) )

I have had it happen a few times jumping near trees (slightly offshore wind) so you get all the cruddy turbulent wind.

The wind had shifted from the SW which is clean to the NW which comes over the trees. See map:
