Where Wednesday?

Post by Denis »

Looks like the wind gods are gonna be sneezing on Wednesday. Any pointers on where to go on a SSE wind? Waconia? (heard it gets gusty with this wind direction). Da Bear? Ramsey might be too on-shore for kites. Mille lacs? Garrision looks good. Any other launches?

Mille Lacs on the north shore. Don't have to worry so much about getting long fetch. launch at Reddy creek on SE as long as it's not too east and you will have nice side on conditions in the breaking waves on the sandbar.

Starboard wave riding and Port ramps so big you'll piss your pants on the way out.

dang, I wish I could be there to see your face when you are wondering when you are going to come down from your first jump heheheh.

The experimental is looking good for Wednesday, but I might be chained to my desk :( . If I can get out it will most likely be at Waconia.

Like Eric said, Mille Lacs would be good with some big waves. Any word if the snail piles have cleared out?

There might be too much south in the forcast, but more SE and Pepin can be awesome.

Snails not a problem at Mille Lacs. There is a path of them along the shore though you can easily step over it. Beware, though they are sharp on the feet and on kites. None in the water. If it blows up there though it is like heaven.

I'd be leary of heading North for a South wind again. Specially when like wed. it looks better south.

I have a small window in the afternoon so I most likely will either do Waconia or Cannon. The south winds are always stronger and steadier at Cannon. I am going to watch the forecasts. I may bring my windsurfing gear for some high wind sailing. Right now they are calling for gusts to 39mph in Rochester for weds. That's when kitinging gets scary and windsurfing is in one of its sweet spots. I'd love to pull out my trusty 4.0 and ride swell. Fingers crossed.

If the wind is onshore at the North side of Cannon, it may be better to launch midway up the lake into sideshore winds. The lake narrows in the center and you can enter into a windshadow and walk your kite up to a sandbar extending out into the lake and do a drift launch. The site is just a pull off on the road that runs along the east side of the lake.

Pepin is great for windsurfing. Tricky launch for kiting and an equipment problem could be challenging with the current. Be careful if you go.

I can get away tomorrow so I'd consider Mille Lacs but I agree with Tighe it's a sure thing in the twin cities or Cannon so it's probably not worth the risk. I'll probably hit Cannon or if it is straight south and good up here I'll go to Green by Forest lake if Barry, Randy or others are heading there. It kicks up ramps like Cannon and I could avoid traffic on the way home. White Bear was lots of fun last Tues and Wed on S-SE too. Looking forward to fun...

It looks like those strong winds in ND/Montana may not make it here on the back end. I was hoping we could hit ML on Th or Fril. The MRF looks cool still with Isabell looking to pound VA and a strong low coming down from Canada next week but it may not make it here.

Cannon sound nasty.

Waconia seems like a good call. The wind looks better west of the cities.

If it'd be more straight south another Chisago Green session would be great, but it looks like it's going to be a little east of south throughout the day.

I'm going to go play at Ramsey again today.

Is anyone headed to Mille Lacs?

Thanks for the input guys. With the uncertainty of the experimental regarding Mille Lacs, I think that Michael and I will play it safe and head to Waconia. Even if that might bring back terrifying memories of a jump that didn't seem to end. Actually, it probably only lasted 3-4 seconds, but it sure didn't feel that way up there.

If you catch us on the beach, we'll have a cooler full of Pop (or soda).
