Do I really need a Best bar

Post by NickRec »

Hey ya'll, I have a question for the masses.
Is it really necessary to buy a Best bar for my 12 meter Waroo or can any ol bar be used?

Thanks,
Nick

any bar will work. you want to have alot of throw. if you don't have much throw you can replace your chickenloop line...

What kind of bar do you have?

Jon,
I have several Best kites (Bularoo 10 and 16, Waroo 13, HP 10). I also have a Slingshot Ranger 9 and 12. I like the Slingshot bars on the Ranger...do you think there would be enough throw on the Ranger bar to replace my Best bars?

I would think so. those bars are bow kite bars.

All you have to do is make sure the line lenghts are the same when the bar is pulled all the way to the chicken loop, and the sheet strap is set to full power on the kite. Most kites are set up this way now, which makes the bars totally interchangable.

Eric has it dialed.

Mark Ive wanted to try that bar on a inflatable also. I think it will work fine its def Not a bow kite bar,it has as much throw but no pulleys , and needs the back brake removed so you can use a outside line to kill your kite(if needed) just add a ring to the outside line and i think it will work sweet on a roo.

the reason I call it a bow kite bar is because of the long throw and the relese/depower system is the same as all the bow kite bars I have seen(gives the outside lines lots of slack). not all bowkites have pullies on the bar.. best doesn't. so no problem there

I would recomend using one of the center lines for the emergency flaging line... it will help to plant the kite on the ground.

most kites that dont have pulleys like Best kites are not bow kites there hybrid kites . the center lines on the ranger bar are way up there so you will need a extra long leash if you go to the center. either work killing your kite is the main goal, your not usaully planting the kite down if you need to pull your QR.

I'm pretty sure the Waroos are hybrids. I think the differentiating factor is the straight trailing edge. Bows have a concave trailing edge when looking along the lines.

Some bows have pulleys some don't. The T3 is going to have 2:1 and 1:1 (i.e. no pulleys) options.

Thanks for the info guys. I will be up at the big event this weekend trying to get the Waroo to work with a 51cm Cabrinha Carbon Powerlock Control Bar. This came with a set of best kites so I can only assume that it has worked with them in the past.

Cheers,
Nick

I would not ever assume anything when it comes to the control devices of something that could kill you.

Grab a Best Representative up at the Event and have them look over your setup before, during and after a launch.

Be careful...and, as always, giver youself plenty of room downwind.

my 2007 Best bars have 21'' of bar travel on the center lines. I would make sure you have enough depower on the bar.

Who needs depower, just edge. Look at Rubens bar sometime when you see his picture in the mags, he has his bars set up with maybe 5 inches of bar travel. All you really need to make sure about is the line lenghts match, and you have a surefire way of shutting it off if something goes wrong.
