TRIFECTA!

Post by PJ »

Now who’s to say that Minnesota wind patterns don't afford us some unique experiences?!? With the air starting south and shifting further west as the day went on, I knew we had a shot at the White Bear Trifecta!

6:45 am - Arrive at Ramsey beach to sail the south wind before work. I pull in to the lot with one other car backed up to the lake...a brand new shiny blue Volkswagen Eurovan! (Totally pimp ride!!!) Coach had been there for an hour already and was just coming out to tune! NICE LANDING COACH! I run a 7.8 and have a nice 45-minute sunrise session.

4:30 pm - OK it was actually closer to 3:30 but I worked hard for 6 hours darn it! Arrive at Mahtomedi beach to find Jim and Pat just finishing a nice 7.0 session. The wind is now SW and setting up the waves for a great cross chop session with cute little 2-foot ramps! Fun Fun Fun!

6:00 pm – Yes it is now actually 6:00 and arriving at Bellaire for the final session of the day! Pam is all powered up and showing us all how it’s done! The wind is nearly due west now and still juiced up enough for a rig somewhere in the 7’s! Luiz was hooked in and ripping it up for a good group a spectators at the swim beach! We sailed until it shut off around 7:30 with smiles all around!

It was great seeing EVERYONE and a few newcomers to the Bear! …and where else but Minnesota could you sample all three beaches around a lake in one day?!?

Cool PJ. We almost did it yesterday but I ran out of want to. Sailed Carlsona from 9:30 to 11:30 perfectly powered in the waves with Fish and 6.2M. Hardly ever came off plane even in jibes w/wave assist. Turned shloggy as wind started to clock W. Decided to pack up when the Rothman Brothers showed and were getting ready to kite at about 1:30

Hit Malmo w/ side on conditions till about 5:30 or 6. Sweet swell up in that part of the lake. It's shallow in spots, caution using 2 foot long fins. Wind kept clocking N so Jeff and I decided to check out Izaty's on the way home.

It was sailable but we were too pooped to party. Plus we had already been out on our 7M sails. If it was blowing for my 6M I think I would have made the "Tri".
