Lake Nokomis open to summer kitesurfing?

Post by DeanD »

Is Lake Nokomis open to summer kitesurfing? I talked to one of the life guards and they said that it’s ok? and they have seen a few people kitesurfing. I have check around and have not found out anything if you can, or its not allowed.

I think the self imposed ban covers Calhoun, Harriet and Nokomis. I can not think of any reason to kite Noko in the summer, maybe try Medicine or Rutherford Beach at White Bear for close in options.

Having lived next to and windsurfed Noko for a few years I believe it's some of the dirtiest wind imaginable. Just my opinion but I would not try to kite this lake in the summer. Also has all of the inherent dangers of Calhoun with walking paths all around and lots of kiddies.

Thanks for the info! Was thinking about sometimes I don’t end up were I start out at. I’m still a new bee at the sport, need to get out more to master that small detail.
Thanks again.

We roller blade around that lake, but we don't kite on it in summer. For some reason, it has really gusty, nasty wind. I tried it last winter a few times and was astounded at the crappy quality of the wind. You will also be alone if you kite there. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Did I mention it sucks?

I can't imagine that place would be any good. Small, crowded, swimmer's itch... Just make a little drive for a better lake. Mille Lacs, Waconia, Washington.
