Hello from Hatteras

Post by darlene »

Well first off I have to apologize to those who have e-mailed me & received no response  . I have been extremely busy adjusting to & organizing my new life here (coach, kite, party, sleep, repeat). I finished my coaches training & am now teaching lessons & camps……and it’s hard work! But it’s a lot of fun teaching others my passion. I was standing on the beach the other day during my training, watching the dolphins jump in the ocean, looking at the blue sky with a few white clouds, and I couldn’t believe that I was going to get paid to do this! :)

I’m loving the warm weather we’ve been having, wetsuits are starting to come off.

I taught the yoga session at the first women’s camp of the season. Girls rock!

My room-mates are awesome, and all the people here are wonderful. Real is a great company to work for because they are so professional, innovative, & dedicated to the sport. The training is outstanding, I’ve learned so much already. I’ve learned to ride toe side, and yesterday I learned backrolls & landed my very first one  ! Also got 25’ of air in the slick yesterday. Hey have any kite divas claimed the case of beer/wine coolers yet? One of my students last week is from Minnesota, Paul Terry, he’s a windsurfer who lives right on Lake Waconia. He progressed very quickly here & is riding upwind--awesome! He knows Tighe & met Stroh on the ice one day. Anyway he witnessed a 20’ jump. Since he’s from Minnesota does he count?

Tom Grace is coming to visit in 2 days. My sister is coming the day after Tom leaves. Leah is thinking about coming out………..anyone else??

I’ve been riding mostly Waroo’s & some Liquid Force Havoc’s, but I still like my turbo diesels the best. The Slingshot T2’s will be here in 1 week & I can’t wait to use & teach on them! No more inverting!!!

Gotta run, I’m teaching Zero to Hero Camp today. Bonfire party on the beach tonight, yeah, I love it here! At the same time I miss all of you & hope more will come visit me!

yo darlene,

you don't know me, but my bro...andy gassner...first got hooked in madison and when we went to hatteras on a trip together and he met the real crew...it was history. he never came back.

you're amongst some of the best riders around and will love that place. and of course...the girl to guy ratio is what...100 guys to 1 girl?

anyway...i was riding the slick first week in april on a yellow cabrinha. i may or may not have seen you in there. have fun and good luck.

I think you meet the challenge, and someone from Minnesota did see you. Time to pay up boys. Congratulations :D way to go. Have a nice summer, and keep us all posted. It will be really fun to watch you ride again, you'll have so many of those trix's down.
