Waroo highs and lows

Post by djmadmike »

Anyone know where I can get a Best Waroo 2006 16M fixed?

I love the kite and it works awesome when it is flying! I was in S Padre this past week (hello to everyone I met there) and I was able to come back to where I started by Sat, which was just great. Whoo ha.

I was flying it on Mon and I heard a "poof" and it fell from the sky. The center seam on the leading edge is blown, in addition to the bladder.

I made sure to only pump it up to 6.5 (used a gage) each time and did not even hit hard on the water (beat the crap out of a rental kite on the first day there though). According to Best, this should not happen and they were not aware of it?

I bought it from best, but it was used in a photo shoot, so since it was used there is no warranty on it even though it was only used 2 times in the winter and 4 days in S. Padre.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Yeah what a bummer, Mike. 3 Waroos and a Naish blew up, 3 from our group alone. I talked to Jeff and what he does is stitch reinforcement on the seams for his school kites. Students are the hardest on them. I just buy Slingshots for my School kites...never had a problem...: ) sorry couldn't resist.

Check out Airtime in the Gorge. They do a great job. Probably end up stronger than before.

Also B&K kites on S. Padre. Steve was saying they do a great job real reasonably.

Jeff Adamski does repairs here locally but that damage was so extensive it may be best to have one of these other places tackle it. Give him a shout and see what he says. He's in the Services section of this site.

Congrats again on reaching that first milestone...staying upwind.

Mike. Best saying they were not aware of it is total B.S. Everyone knows the 06 Waroo leading edges kept blowing up , so for Best to say they have not heard of it is Best saying they're deaf. I'd dig my heels in a little if I was you and ask for them to repair it at the minimum. Unfortunatley some of the other Waroos that blew in Padre were 07's so they may not have dealt with the problems as well as they say they did.
Best are known for, and sell having good customer service,I would ask them to live up to their claims. Did they tell you you had no warantee when you bought the kite?.
If they refuse to help I'd suggest making sure you promise them you'll make a lot of noise on the forums. ( it may help your cause, who knows)
As far as repair, Bill at B and S kites in Padre, Airtime, and Jeff locally may be able to fix it. I don't know if Jeff does the leading edge kind of work your kite requires. Jeff?.
But I'd say be more forceful with Best before you give up.

He fixed my Foil in 1 day and I had it back before the next weekend.
Awsome repair job and low cost.

usually a 4 day turn around but he'll do it faster if you tell him it is a rush

Waroo 16's

Post by JRN »

Mike, I went through 2 '06 waroo 16's before I got one where the LE seam held. I think the QC was very spotty early on & the 1st shipment from China seemed especially prone to failure. Luckily I got mine from the good folks @ Realkites, so they warrantied both. Avery has literally been beating on his for over a season, though, with no ill effects. I have considered adding some internal reinforcement to the seam if it happens again. Hey, you could use it as an excuse to go back to SPI, the Gorge, or FLA to get it repaired!! Good Luck, JRN P.S: Check out Best's Forum & you'll find other accounts of LE failures w/ photos.
