Ice Out Prediction

Post by Jeff A »

Everyone thinks that the ice is melting fast, but I believe the ice will be here at least 2 more weeks. My prediction for "ice out" on Lake Calhoun is April 8th.

I think if we get some good rain and then some wind, it could speed up the process. Thinking back, I remember that it was always a really windy day that broke up the ice, at least on White Bear. Anyone have a prediction for the Bear? Last few years it's been between the 10th and the 15th.

Wow! That's great! Except I wish they had the data updated for this year. It's still showing last spring's ice-out dates. lol

A large part of Lake Pepin is currently sailable (Roadside Park north of Lake City) There is still plenty of ice elsewhere though and when the wind picks up who knows where it will migrate to.

I've been keeping an eye on the Pepin Ice Report. Looks like it's going fast!

Up here in beautiful Crosslake where the ice is over 30" thick I'd say it'll be out about September 3rd or 4th. NICE!

We finally have a decent surface back again. (dry corn slush) that will dry out in a few days. Then we'll have 3 weeks(min) of fun as hell ice riding with warm weather and long days! Bring it.

Keep shreddin, Todd

I think you guys are too optimistic - I bet White Bear doesn't have ice out until April 17 this year and Mille Lacs will be May 2. It looks like there is a strong low that is coming here Wednesday and will cool things off later next week. Time will tell.

Cannon is usually a good place to go because there is less crap floating in it than the Mississippi. St. Croix at mary's beach is great on if we get a northly.

Goose Lake

Post by johnbaker17 »

Goose Lake is that little lake off the southwest corner of White Bear Lake. The part on the west side of Hwy 61 (where they do all the waterskiing shows) was open last Thursday and the larger portion on the east side of the hwy should be open by the end of today, if not already.

I think we might start to see open water around the edges of the Bear in the next 3 days. We're slotted for 3 days of wind and rain, which is great for melting ice.

After the edges start, I'd give it another week to week and a half before it's sailable.

As soon as I can, I'm gonna use whatever open water is available and use my icebreaker board to help with the rest.

For what its worth Normandale lake in bloomington was half open today and I'm not sure how long the rest will last. Its sailable with a south wind now. I'll out there the next few days unless a better option opens up.

theres a paved boat ramp on the west side. It might be impossible with east wind unless the ice is all out. Kiting might be tough under any circumstances. There are two islands just aways out that i assume would cause serious problems, but the lake is only 4 feet deep so you might be able to walk past them. But it might be nasty I'm thinking theres feet of muck to get through.

My guessed was April 5th in Nov. 06, Now I agree with davec, April 1 or maybe april 3rd. I've been ice fishing all winter, this last week the ice honey comed. I will not go back on the ice as of Sunday. That mean 1 week!! I'm going to Corpus for a week with a friend on Friday so I will not be here for the ice off. First time since 1980.
Have fun!!

Normandale Lake???

I work in a building just north of that nasty mud puddle... yeah it's 100% open but I would only consider kiting as a novelty gig on a steady East wind in the dead of winter.

If you can kite that biohazard liquid you deserve immortality!

Even trying to windsurf that little pond seems like you'd be trying to fit yourself into a clown car!

That said, it would definitley be the coolest thing I've ever seen!
