Easter Sailing at Da Bear

Post by pat taylor »

It is calling for NW wind of 10 to 20 miles per hour on Easter. My wife has the inlaws coming over, so I need an excuse to get away for a while. Anyone up for some Easter sailing, to take a break away from the relatives? It is also calling for rain too, But what the heck, once one is wet, what does rain matter.

I'm hoping to get out there in the late morning. What launch will be best for a beginning kiter? Any thoughts?

Bellaire is about the only launch for a kiter on that direction. Just be sure to have someone around who might want to pick you up downwind. :-)

The best spot for a total downwinder pickup is Wildwood beach, but it's tough to find if you've never been there. Otherwise, you can go downwind a couple hundred yards, at most, to the point on the same side as Bellaire beach and walk back up the shoreline to the beach. This time of year is great for that - no docks.

Hey John, are you still interested in that 8.4? I've still got it and have only used it a little bit. I just got a new Naish to replace it and probably shouldn't be seen on a Wipika kite. :)

I might see you guys out there, mid-afternoon.

Thanks for the tips, Coach...
Re the kite, I had a really GOOD experience with a low aspect ratio kite in Puerto Rico - it was ugly, but I spent a lot more time actually kiting, not untangling, untwisting, etc. so my next kite purchase is (hopefully) going to be low aspect ratio until my skills and experience improve.

Hope to see you out there tomorrow! - z
