Holy Crap, Duluth is ripping!

Post by Coach »

When I looked at the 9:00 wind reading for Duluth, it was 38mph, gusts to 51! Holy cow. So, I called the Sky Harbor weather meter - 45mph with gusts to 54.

The only real bummer is that it's unsailable and the lakecam doesn't show anything useful, both for the same reasons. There is a TON of ice right in front of Duluth - looks like it extends out about 1-2 miles. That should break up in a hurry, but I imagine it's doing so serious damage to the shoreline.

The ice remains. http://134.156.98.1/lakecam/ You would think 60 mph wind and waves over 10 feet would have pushed that ice right through town!

That shot is from yesterday, I think. I could have sworn that was the same picture... either way, I'm sure there is still a lot of ice... :-(

HI,
New to the site and the sport. I am in Duluth for the next month. There is still Ice out about a mile. I think that if a person really wanted to get out there, they could move up the shore a little. Lester river or French river are both probably open and have easy access to the water (no cliffs), but you might have to fight shore fishermen a little.
