Shameless Plug - Gathering July 7 - 9

Post by Eric P »

A while back a few of us got together and decided to have a little get together of all us wind addicts this summer. We announced our intentions on the forum, everyone agreed it was a great idea and set on the dates, July 7 – 9, and the place, Malmo on the beautiful Lake Mille laks. That was about two months ago. I haven’t seen a peep on this forum since then. I thought it was high time to begin pimping this event again, to make sure everyone remembers the plan, which is basically to have as much fun over the weekend as is humanly possible. If it blows, we ride. If it doesn’t, we find something else fun to do.

I just wanted to make sure everyone knew about this event – gathering we had planed. Bring any toys you may want to have incase the wind doesn’t cooperate. Riding is just a bonus anyway, the point is to get together and have fun with people into the same crazy stuff as yourself. We have a large field at a new campground a quarter mile from the lake that will serve as home base for this gathering.

To those who are planning on coming, lets hype this thing up so all us wind Junkies get together for a great time out on a great lake. I’ll see you guys there.

Sorry.....I was about to do a couple of updates of what I know is happening.
ET the Cabrinha rep said he'd come, he said he hopes to have demos of kites and kayaks.
Jamie Richardson is bringing his big wake board boat with a big 12 ft tower on it, wake if there is no wind, rescue/committee boat if theres wind.
FL project of Forest lake are bringing wake board demos and gear.
Mike Fox is going to be on hand to setup a slalom course if we have wind, the same course could be used for kite cross if people are interested.

If you're a musician bring instruments, we hope to get a jam going.

Anyone got a volley ball setup they can bring?

Eric can you post directions to the camp ground again, also contact #'s, how many spots are reserved?.

Think fun, any toys that work on water or land for light air fun bring them.

There is no plan, it will be what we make it when we are there, so if you're coming bring fun ideas, a party attitude, all your toys and pray for wind.

Is there a place to camp at Malmo? I do have a portable volleyball court that is so awsome that we could even set it up in the water and play :)

Tom, we are not allowed to camp at Malmo, but Eric has details about Petes campsite which is about a mile up the road. Eric has put up the earlier info under the "Gathering info" post which has #'s etc.

I'm there! I'm not sure if I'll be able to ride at all with my hand in a cast, but I'll be happy to give out pointers from the beach for those who want to hear me ramble.

I'll take some of those pointers Dennis.... but I'm guessing that you will ride n-e-ways considering you rode with it broken with no cast..

I am going to bring my boat for no wind funn (not rescue can't take any waves in my tiny boat). and a Kyak.

this will be a sweet weekend don't miss it. keep in mind this is not just for Kiters

I'll be driving down in my surf mobile "The Blue Moose" for the Gathering with windsurf gear in hand. Although I wouldn't mind someone giving me some lessons on water kiting (if possible?). Never tried it on the water, only snow.

I'll plug our Moose Windsurfing Regatta while I'm at it  It's next weekend July 1,2 on 'Windy Wabigoon Lake' in Dryden, On Canada.

Info here: MOOSE REGATTA

Stay Cool,

Woody, if no one who knows what they are doing will help, I'd love to get you dangling off a kite.
Look forward to seeing you.

RS24 ..go to the LAKES section on this site, click Mille Lacs and there's directions and a map of the lake so you can see where Malmo is.
If you can make a change in your plans to stay over night I'd advise it.
Sometimes Boardheads have a little fun when they get together.

Is this something I can just show up for? Or are numbers limited and a reservation is required.

Pamela is pumped to pilot our support boat @ the gathering. I'm looking forward to seeing the whole "WINDTRIBE" on and off the water!! After watching the fisherman slam their props on the sand at the Malmo boat launch..I'd advise everyone to be very cautious around those sand bars! :? Jim N.

sounds interesting and fun

This sounds like fun. I have a yellow lab, a tent, and mtn bike if it is not windy. Girlfriend wants to know to come to, but not sure if we have enough room ;-) Haven't camped with my 15 month old lab yet, or either left him long days by himself. He is going to be with me for sure He is very well behaved and friendly. As I am typing this, he must sense that I am writing about it, he is getting cuddly again. No, Bax I won't leave you home alone. Dont' worry...

Wondering what the doggy accomodations (besides pure nature) would be in the camp site. Can I tie him to something or a friendly folk could/would watch him for me while I am on the water? Unfortunately, the windsurfing equipment does not accomodate big labs (he is around 100 lbs) yet.

I really like to come, I have been out on the WBL eighteen times already this year, and Mille Lacs would be a good change of scenery.

Malmo is a nice park with trees etc that you can tie the girlfriend to while you go out on the water. There's biffs if Bax needs to go potty.
The only thing I don't know is Petes campgrounds policy to dogs, Eric could you check?.
