waconia ice free (mostly)

Post by john mooney »

The big noreaster blew most of the ice into the far SW portion of waconia today. If the wind changes from the W it might all come back to the launch site. I'll keep you posted. I checked the wx in duluth as I was landing , winds 080 at 43 mph, blowing snow, visibility 1/8 mile. I'll bet there were some monster waves, let the season begin!!!!!!!!!

Remember Moondog, a little bit of ice is no big deal if one is bound and determined to surf The World of Wac!

Has anyone seen WBL?

Some of the smaller lakes I drive by on the way to work opened up in less than 12 hours... Lake Olson, about a mile long and 1/4 wide, had about 20ft around the shores on the way to work weds., I believe, and was open when I drove by on the way home!

If it wasn't going to be so freakin' cold this weekend, it might have been a good few days to get out...

I just called Jason at the WBBW. He was out breaking up some of the ice so they can get the docks in there soon. sounds like it's about 1/4 to half open.

It'll be totally open some time next week, for sure. :-)
