Hola!
Has anybody been to the "Mexican Riviera" for kiteboarding and can
recomend good beaches? Going in 7days, 11hours, 20minutes, but who's
counting! Any info helpful, thanks. Bryan
Kiting in Playa Del Carmen?

I may be going in March. I did a search on http://www.kiteforum.com that was helpful. It seemed like a pretty good spot, with frontally driven wind.
It would be great if you could post a report in Destinations when you return.
enjoy

Ikarus Kitesurf has a three schools in that area. One is in Playa Del Carmen. They seem to know the area pretty well, I'd give them a call. Their website has a lot of info too.

I went kitesurfing there about 4 1/2 years ago in the summer - at the time I was the only person kitesurfing there and had the beaches to myself. I remember that the beaches to the north (about 20 mins walk along the sand) were pretty open though somewhat crowded at the weekend, and that the wind was on the light side (I had a 10 m foil at the time). It was a beautiful spot though.

I was in the Riviera 2 times in the past month. When the winds are out of the northeast, east, or southeast, Puerto Morelos is the best spot. It is really nice becaue the beach is wide and there are very few people there. Also, Ikarus has their main kite school there. When the wind is out of the north, wow, the best spot is Isla Blanca, 15 minutes north of Cancun. Playa del Carmen is not a great spot because there are WAY TOO MANY people there on the beach and also in the water snorkeling. If you are staying in Playa, there are 2 Ikarus shops there. I found these guys to be really helpful, (I took classes from Lolo, from France, and he was wonderful!).

I've been to Akumal the last 2 years during the last week in January. Akumal is 1 hr and 10 min. south of Cancun airport. Great weather and most days had winds at least 10-20 and some 15-25/30. There were about 2 deader days each time in the 8-9 days I was there. Beautiful area. This year I learned there is a small kite shool and rental in Tulum (I'll have to look up the contact info at home - it was just a little south of the ruins). There is also a place that rents stuff about 10 min. N of Akumal. I didn't do any kiting but they would be decent places. We really enjoyed snorkeling in akumal. Have a great trip!
