Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Post by johnz »

Just, got back. I couldn't find much info on the web, so I thought I'd make this post. I'd give it a C+ for kiting potential, and maybe a B- for light wind windsurfing.

* Is on the Pacific Coast
* The town is in the 'southeast' corner of Banderos Bay, which is the largest bay in North America - 30 miles long by 20 miles deep.
* Nuevo Vallarta is more in the middle of the bay and much more deserted
* Nice long sandy beaches - plenty of rigging area
* Surf is manageable most of the time - 1' to 3' waves
* No official kiting or windsurfing rentals except for 20 year old 100 pounder windsurf boards at the resorts
* Wind is usually on-shore, but will drift to side-on sometimes
* Not really windy, but built to 12 - 18 mph 4 out of 7 days in February
* Wind is pretty steady, but peaks at 3 - 4 pm (?)
* Call if questions 612-275-5646
