When Whitecaps turn into "Smoke on the Water".(how much wind needed)....

So, how much wind is needed to turn the tops of the whitecaps into "Smoke on the water?"

Anybody want to guess? Anyway, a lot of wind,,,maybe close to 30 mph.

If you've ever been out on a deep water lake (even if it's just a mile wide all around) but deep water, you've experienced "Smoke on the Water" when the wind is blowing really hard. It's one thing to have whitecaps (nice) then there's enough wind to get planning and practice deep water starts.

But wind the wind picks up to around 28 to 30 and above the whitecaps literally get blown off the wave in the form of white lines.

It's really neat! The caps of the waves just disintergrate and become lots' of long stringy white water lines coming off the waves.

In this situation You've got Wind!
