Sturgeon Stampede Kiteboarding Event

Post by WAK Jason »

Looking for some winter kiteboarding fun? Then check this out! It is almost time for the 27th Annual Sturgeon Stampede on Lake Winnebago Feb 12-14! Only a 1/2 mile out from the shores of Fond du Lac, this event provides easy access to fun for everyone. More event info here! http://www.wakkiteboarding.com/2016/01/544/ The conditions are shaping up nicely with the WAK shacks already launched and several ramps have been constructed and tested. We did manage to catch some drone footage before the big storm early last week so you could see the excellent ice conditions. https://youtu.be/k0YPQI3d894 We got about 8" of snow on top of the ice last week and we have been riding all week. With the big storm headed our way later this week, things are shaping up nicely for the event.

This years event will be a part of a new local winter event called the Sturgeon Spectacular. This local winter event will have multiple venues and activites throughout the Fond du Lac area including on the lake and in the city. For more info on all of the events and itineraries for the entire weekend, please check out http://www.fdl.com/sturgeonspectacular/ This site has all the different events and locations listed along with times. Additionally, if you will be looking for lodging, please check out the site as the Fond du Lac Area Convention & Visitors Bureau has arranged for several lodging specials with many also providing free shuttles to several of the activities!

Please note that WAK will be hosting the On Ice Kick-off of the Sturgeon Spectacular Friday night! So if you are coming into town early to stay overnight, please stop out on the lake for your Friday night entertainment!

So the wind looks pretty lite the next couple of days. Believe me, the conditions are hard, icey and fast with not much snow. It is rideable, but it is especially chattery on the board. Skiis aren't nearly as bad. We are shooting for racing Saturday. Big air might be questionable. Anyways, we will be out riding and having a good time. Stop out and help support your WAK support. Sunday is our backup day.

So the wind isn't going to be very friendly today. We will be doing most of our competitions on Sunday. If we happen to get enough wind and we have enough competitors today, maybe we can organize a race today. Just looks like better wind and warmer on Sunday. The WAK will be out on the lake today and we have the bonfire and fireworks tonight. There will be a hockey game on the ice this afternoon too.So if you are in the area, stop out. Hope to see everyone for the kiting on Sunday.
